Capturing a great picture can truly freeze a moment in time. When it comes to getting that perfect pose it’s definitely no Vogue strike a pose when you have children. Anything can happen!
The potential tantrums, crying, and lack of cooperation are all possibilities. Let’s focus on the things that you can control. Here are my top 5 tips to capturing a great photo with your children!
Clothes speak louder than words! You can style matching outfits to color coordinate, matching shirts, or even just a theme. That will create a cohesive look. It can be something as simple as one color or feminine details- it doesn’t have to be an exact match or anything too extravagant!
2. MAKE SURE THEY ARE FED
Between photographer restrictions, weather, and schedules, sometimes you can’t control what time your session occurs. What you can control is making sure your kids have a full tummy. Pack snacks and make sure they are fed beforehand. Full bellies make happy kiddos!
3. BRING HELP
Have someone or something to help you. Make sure that that your child is comfortable with to this person or it is something they love like their favorite toy or book. Sometimes all they need to refocus is a little distraction.
4. TALK ABOUT IT
I like to give my child the heads up and let her know we are taking pictures. It gives her time to get excited. I show her outfits and talk about how fun it is going to be. EX: We are going to have so much fun taking pictures with daddy today! This sounds so minuscule but it really can make a world of a difference.
5. HAVE FUN
Above all, children are naturally playful and they just wanna have fun! We have captured some of the best photos when we are playing a game, chasing each other, or just being silly and making animal noises.
And if all else fails, MINI M&M’s!!!
Now that you are armed with these tips and some M&M’s, it’s time to make memories! Make your next photoshoot one that your family will treasure for a lifetime. The key is controlling the things you can and being prepared!
