Yes, I have always challenged the status quo growing up being Hispanic. Feeling a moral obligation to guard the ways of doing some things just doesn’t exist, as a result, I’ve become an outlier. It’s definitely important to preserve the great things about our culture but to also expand your horizons and grow. I recently went to WALMART to get my Pit Crew Oil Change (only $19.88) using Quaker State® conventional motor oil (5W-20, 5W-30 or 10W-30) /and I started to realize the journey I have taken.
As I was in the Auto Department, I thought to myself, it’s silly to think my grandmother has never been here nor ever gone to get her oil changed a day in her life. They even have a DIY option $20.24 – Quaker State® Ultimate Durability™ Full Synthetic Motor Oil , but let’s not get all crazy here, I don’t EVER plan on changing it myself. I will take the DIFM (Do It For Me) option PLEASE as I grocery shop #busymomlife. So How did the apple fall so far from the tree?
Growing up in a family as the only girl, it was natural that my dad took care of all things car related (as in he reminded me to go get them done). I didn’t even get my driver’s license until I was almost twenty, and honestly was forced, because I didn’t want to drive. I lived in a bubble, comfortable with a world where I expected the men in my life to “take care” of things. And then it happened!
I did what any normal Latina girl does in this situation, I moved abroad – LOL! France was my destination of choice because I had visited a friend and fell in love with Paris. I dreamed of being swept away by a Frenchman and living next door to the Eiffel Tower – a girl can dream BIG, right? Obviously, that’s not how it happened but I did learn a lot of from that experience.
For the first time in my life I was seeing the world according to me. This experience amplified everything because I had no security blanket, it was up to me to manage everything. I want to encourage all of the ladies, not just my Latinas, to take charge and do things yourself. You don’t have to move abroad to realize this you just have to pave your own path. Let’s find budget friendly things like Quaker State Oil Changes, Everyday Low Price at Walmart, to help us save money and enjoy the luxuries that life has to offer like massages, vacays, and shopping! We all need these little breaks in life.
