The blogging world can be the perfect place for the introverts (myself included). You have the ability to stay behind the screen and use technology for almost everything. Although this can be fantastic for your online numbers, there is something to be said about meeting someone in person.
Networking is the “other” piece to blogging puzzle that I believe is imperative for growth. Blog conferences are great for this. They last a couple of days and put you in “not so typical” situations with opportunities to meet your fellow creatives and brands. A way to connect with others over something different (like salsa dancing) and in a relaxed environment!
Having a background in the HR/Recruiting I was exposed to the power of networks on a regular basis. You should always consider networking and go into it thinking of what you can provide for someone. Sound advice or a new tool you introduce to someone could help them tremendously and they will never forget that. As Maya Angelou says, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
If you are a fellow introvert and the thought of these conferences make you nervous. Trust me, you will be with your own kind. The people that geek out about the same blogging world that you do, the people that take 500 photos of everything, and the people that will finally understand your struggles. If nothing else, you should at least try one. You never know who you may meet and the motivation you feel when you leave can move mountains!
