I recently took a girls trip down south with my mom and daughter. It reminded me of how everyone used to tell me, make sure you travel now because when you have children you won’t be able to. We didn’t travel very far this time but I still think it’s important to travel with my family as a whole. I have always loved traveling, I spent a year abroad working in my twenties, and vacationed regularly before I had my child. I don’t think having children should stop you from doing this, it just changes how you do it!
Nobody said traveling with your littles ones is easy but I am always up for a challenge! You have to pack a bunch of extra gear, entertainment, and still plan around their schedules. I definitely recommend doing it anyway. Traveling with your children even when they are young can be really beneficial for you both and here’s why.
5 Reasons you Should Travel with Children:
1. Traveling can be educational beyond any classroom.
Traveling to new places and seeing new things can truly help your child understand history, culture, and new experiences. It brings their story books to life. Seeing my daughter at 10-months old at the beach for the first time was truly a joy. Discovering sand for the first time was priceless, even though she tried to eat it!
2. They are exposed to different things.
Seeing new things and trying new foods helps develop a curiosity for the unknown.
3. You have time outside of your normal everyday routine to appreciate them and spend quality time together.
It’s hard sometimes to take a break from our everyday schedules to spend quality time together as a family. Taking a vacation helps you remember this and see people in a more relaxed environment. It’s amazing what you can learn by being in the same room without having phones and computers on all the time.
4. You make memories that will last forever.
Traveling with my family growing up I have so many great memories, tons of pictures, and good times. I still remember the family trips we took and cherish the trips I have taken with my family now. Experiencing new things for the first time together is special.
5. The cost is minimal for the reward.
Traveling doesn’t mean you have to go overseas or to a lavish location. Travel can be to the nearest beach town, lake, or even camping. I have found so many gems in and around Houston that are great for mini trips. Also if you do plan to travel further, resorts and cruises usually have childcare options and children under 12 stay for free.
Trust me, I have been that parent with the crying child in the plane, the mom who left the diapers in the checked luggage with an 8-hour delay, and the mom whose child pooped in the resort pool. It wasn’t always rainbows but I still wouldn’t change this for the world. I have made so many enjoyable memories with my family and will continue to take my daughter on vacation as much as possible. I think it’s the little things like travel that bring us together and help us better understand the world around us. Can you tell we love the beach? What do you think about traveling with children?
