My mother, the heart of our family, was turning sixty this year and we decided to celebrate in style. One of her favorite themes is Sock Hop, I think it brings back memories of us growing up and attending these at our church. If you don’t know, a sock hop is a party that is themed with a 50’s and 60’s vibe with records, old cars, poodle skirts, ect. The name originated with people actually taking off their hard soled shoes to dance in their socks and not ruin the gym floors.
The venue she chose was a retro diner called Another Time Soda Fountain in Rosenberg. If you live in and around Houston this is a great place to check out sometime- I recommend getting the 1lb Banana Split it’s amazing!!! The table centerpieces were old glass milk jars filled with candy – they doubled as the centerpieces but also as the favors. We had a photo wall to take pictures and a DJ that played oldies as well as a karaoke set up. Our entree of choice was a simple hamburger and fries. Instead of serving cake we had the dessert menu to include a choice of the 1lb banana split or an old fashioned milkshake. Wardrobe selection was my department. I decided to make custom poodle skirts for a matching look. I used the online tutorial DIY Poodle Skirt here and it was quite simple to create.
What to wear to a Sock Hop? Here are some suggestions:
Women: Poodle Skirt / Polka Dots (Dress/Skirt) / Rosie the Riveter / Pink Lady / Saddle Shoes
Men: Leather Jacket / White T-shirt / Letterman Jacket / Plaid Shirt / Bowling Shirt / Oxfords

The party was a success and we all had a good OLD time!
