I attended my first blog conference this past weekend, Blog Elevated. In the 4 days following my blog has taken on a new identity, should I say the Val Around Town part 2. I highly recommend attending a conference like this to anyone who has a blog or wants to start a blog. The resources, presentations, and people you meet are an incredible and valuable tool for your success. The blogger world is complex with multiple facets and can be challenging for those of us entering this community.

Some advice and takeaways from my experience:
1.YOUR BLOG IS A BUSINESS
My biggest take away from the conference is treating your blog as a business – making sure to strategize, communicate, invest, research, and create an image that portrays just that. Not everyone starts out as a full time blogger but you still need to take action to convey you take this seriously and that you are committed. Let’s face it, social media has changed the way we do business completely but would you hire a hobby surgeon or dentist, umm NO!
This event puts you face to face with other bloggers> YES, the people who GEEK out about this as much as you do! People of all blog levels and all walks of life. Even if you consider yourself a niche blogger you can find someone to relate to. You have the opportunity to ASK a million questions- I know I did. Not only can you network with bloggers but brands also attend to provide advice and meet bloggers.
3.INVEST IN YOURSELF
If you are serious about this, the conference is a small investment in your future and can provide opportunities that are not available from behind your computer screen. Invest the time to make something you are proud of. Invest in researching trends, tools, technology, and your target audience. FINALLY, no one will invest in you if you don’t invest in yourself first!
Blog Elevated was not only a great event that truly elevated my blog (LOL) but I also came home with a lot of cool swag, new blogger friends, a blogger network, social media tools, and a new enthusiasm to improve my blog. So if you have any doubt, don’t– now is the time!
